Ayers Rock also known as Uluru has been created over 600 million years ago.
Ayers Rock was named after Sir Henry Ayers in 1873.
Uluru lies west of the Simpson Desert and is not far from the 'Red' center of Australia.
It is about 335kms south west of Alice Springs. Even though Uluru is a big and famous landmark in Australia it is not the biggest monolith in the world, Western Australia's Mount Augustus is the biggest. Uluru is about 3.6kms long and 1.9kms wide. The surface is generally flat but is also made up of valley's, caves, ridges and unique shapes which were created by erosion and changed over millions of years.
